The prodigious Ridley Scott

idley Scott is a British director and producer. He is the director of the film Gladiator. After a hiatus in the 1990s, the British filmmaker returned to the forefront with Galdiator. He set out to make a peplum, a genre of historical fiction, which was almost forgotten at the time. The film was a huge success and received many rave reviews. He became a remarkable director with great talent and passion for the craft. We see him, for example, with Blade Runner, a classic science fiction film of the 1980s, American Gangster, a film about the mafia, or Black Hawk Down, which tells the story of a special mission of the American army. However, Gladiator is one of his masterpieces.

The film's good points

The script, the direction, as well as the historical reconstructions are credible and fascinating. Moreover, the actors give their all for a film that was not expected to be so successful. The result is epic, grandiose and moving scenes. The sets and costumes are faithful and realistic, making this experience even more enjoyable.

Rivality and revenge

Maximus Decimus Meridius, played by Russell Crowe, is a renowned and loyal general of the Roman armies who saw himself taking the place of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Following this declaration, Commodus, son of the Emperor, becomes enraged, kills his father and proclaims himself Emperor. He then demanded the execution of General Maximus and his family. After this event, a violent but fabulous rivalry ensues. During a fight between the two main characters, a mythical phrase of the film is uttered after an initial conflict.

"My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander-in-chief of the northern armies, general of the Felix legions, faithful servant of the real emperor Marcus Aurelius. Father of a murdered son, husband of a murdered wife, and I shall have my revenge in this life or the next."

Faced with such an affront, Commodus demands a final battle. But who will win?
